Family Friendly La Plagne: Why This Resort Is So Great For Families
When it comes to family friendly winter resorts, La Plagne comes top of the list. Not only is the centre mostly pedestrianised, but the lifts are easy to access and the options for child care and ski schools taking children as young as three are endless. Fun off the slopes is just as varied and the resort takes great pride in offering a host of activities that all the family can enjoy. Catered chalets, La Plagne style are mostly geared towards families and many companies offer nannies, baby-sitting or other child friendly add-ons should you need them - such as a packed lunch or an early dinner for the little ones. Why So Great For Families?
It has taken time for this resort to become so popular with families, but it really is the perfect location for youngsters just starting out on their skiing journey. There are so many wonderful slopes perfect for beginners and many believe it to be better value than some of the other Alpine winter sports areas.
Made up of six smaller villages, it doesn't matter where you stay as each has direct access to the slopes. No jumping on a bus or trekking a long way to where you need to be.
If your children are in ski school (and we recommend they give it a go), all of the ski schools meet at the centre of the villages, making them very convenient. Snow conditions, thanks to the altitude of the resort, are usually excellent, so even the lower nursery slopes remain good throughout the season. There are snow zones in the resort with fairies and dragons, which are ideal for the younger kids.
Recently a new area called the Fun Slope has been created especially for children. Located near the Arpette lift, in Plagne Bellecote, it is a cross between a boardercross and slopestyle course. It is a lot of fun and a great confidence builder.
Many families choose to ski in the morning and then spend time enjoying the other activities on offer in the afternoon. The dedicated sledging areas are always fun and taller kids (140cm) can have a go on the luge track at La Plagne centre, which is an exhilarating experience!
There is a skating rink outdoors in Plagne Bellecote and an indoor one in Les Coches, and if you fancy a really wild afternoon, why not take a husky dog sled ride through the forest? There are plenty of snowshoeing tracks that make for a lovely family outing and a visit to the sculpture park on the glacier is a great option too.
With so much easy ski terrain and plenty of options for off piste fun, not to mention some fabulous family-friendly catered chalets, La Plagne is tailor made for groups travelling with children. Book with a reputable tour operator and they will talk you through your options with regards to self-catered or catered chalets. La Plagne has so much choice and no matter what you go for and in which small village, you will be conveniently close to the slopes, the village centre, the restaurants and the ski schools. This spot really does have family friendly written all over it!
