What To Do On A ‘No Ski' Day In Tignes

For avid skiers, there are so many options out there when it comes to resorts and your choice of a hotel or catered chalet. Tignes is perhaps one of the most renowned resorts out there, and for good reason. It attracts thousands of people each year for its exceptional skiing and reliable weather, so if you’ve booked a holiday on the slopes this season, there’s every chance you’ll have chosen this fabulous place.

But not all of us want to spend every single day on the slopes when we go away, and options for no-ski days can be severely lacking in many of Europe’s top resorts. Thankfully, life in a catered chalet, Tignes-style, doesn’t end at the bottom of the piste. There are plenty of amazing activities to keep you happy and occupied on the days you’d rather be doing something different or just taking it easy.

The Rink

You might just wake up one day and not fancy the exhilaration of downhill skiing, and for days like those, just a stone’s throw from many a catered chalet, Tignes has a fantastic ice rink set in its enormous lake. It’s a great way to continue to enjoy winter sports but by changing it up to try something a bit different. It’s also a top option for apres-ski!

Apres-Ski

Funnily enough, there’s no rule to say you have to have been skiing that day to head to the best apres-ski hotspots! You can still hang out with friends (old and new) that have been off on the slopes and join them for a drink and some food – with plenty of partying options on offer for later in the evening.

Events

As well as all the fun you might expect on the doorstep of your catered chalet, Tignes has a few unusual events to captivate the imagination on your days off the pistes. One such event is the Andros E-Trophy, which involves fast-paced ice driving. You heard that right – racing around the ice in real cars! Surely that’s as much fun and excitement as any downhill run!

Other Sports

As well as the winter sports, there are plenty of opportunities to try other activities, such as mountain biking or rock climbing. The region is home to an excellent leisure centre for those looking to have a bit of fun away from the snow.

Heading to the Mountains

There’s probably just one more thing to say when it comes to enjoying your ski-resort holiday, and that’s that the very best accommodation option is a catered chalet! Tignes has some of the best on offer and it’s a great way to have your own private base without having to worry about what you’ll do at mealtimes. It’s also great as it gives you more time to enjoy the sights and slopes of the region, and families as well as groups of friends will enjoy this style of holiday. There are so many things to do aside from skiing that you’ll be scheduling your second visit before your first trip is even over!
