Why Catered Chalets In La Plagne Could Equal Your Dream Family Ski Holiday

La Plagne is most often recognised by experienced skiers for the quality of its powder and variety of runs. However, it is also undoubtedly one of the best ski resorts for families with children and, for this reason, it has been recognised as part of the ‘Famille Plus’ scheme. This article will outline some of the best family-friendly features of this underrated French resort.

Ski area

Along with Les Arcs, La Plagne makes up part of the huge Paradiski area, with 425km of piste. The sheer size of the resort means that there is an excellent range of slopes to suit all abilities and this includes gentle sweeping runs suitable for younger skiers and learners. Of the 130 plus runs, 10 are green (for beginners) and 69 are blue (beginner-intermediate). Each of the villages also has pistes with ‘magic carpet’ lifts for complete beginners and children. With ski-in/ski-out facilities and safe, car-free paths, all these areas are easily accessible from catered chalets. La Plagne’s CoolSkiZones are also specifically designed for learners, with marked, gentle slopes and even free lifts!

Skiing with a family in tow also doesn’t have to break the bank, with the resort offering discounted family ski passes.

Ski schools

There are several excellent ski schools taking children as young as three years old. The youngest kids are taught by experienced instructors in snow gardens with magic carpets and baby button lifts. This ensures they progress safely and quickly, with many children being able to be led by their instructors on blue runs by the end of a week’s tuition. Some of the schools are also British-owned, with great English-speaking instructors.

Childcare

Across La Plagne’s 10 bases, there are a whopping 16 nurseries taking children from 3 months to 2 years old. Nursery staff are highly qualified and many are also English speaking. This means parents with babies and young children can be free to hit the pistes!

Family fun activities

When you’re not skiing, there are plenty of activities for all the family. The whole family can enjoy the many dedicated sledging areas across La Plagne and the wider Paradiski.

Off the slopes there is bowling in Belle Plagne and ice skating at Bellecôte. The bobsleigh experience can be fun for older kids and there is even paintballing at the bottom of the Roche de Mio gondola.

After a tiring day’s skiing, quality family time can also be spent playing board games or watching movies in the cosiness of one of our catered chalets. La Plagne is really much more than a ski resort and the perfect setting for a family winter holiday experience.

Food and restaurants

Families are always made welcome at the resort’s many restaurants, with high chairs and children’s menus being available at most. Although food is all included when you stay in catered chalets, La Plagne’s food offerings are very reasonably priced compared to other resorts, making it a family favourite.

The best way for all these great aspects of La Plagne to be enjoyed by all the family is by booking a catered chalet. Most are designed with families very much in mind, with children’s bedrooms and the option for ‘kiddie’s tea’. This kind of accommodation offers the perfect base from which to explore this fantastic resort.
